For hitters who consistently hit solid ground balls, as opposed to weak or chopped ground balls, a slight adjustment in their stance or hand position may lower the bat position on the ball just enough to hit the lower back portion of the ball instead of the top of the ball. Hitters who widen their stance and bend their knees slightly may see the necessary line drives. Also worth a try is lowering the height of the hitter's hands a couple of inches in their initial set-up position. This may allow the hitter to get to the back of the ball more consistently.

I agree with the GM, don't see Walker as our 3rd baseman of the future....my crystal ball sees him at 1st base with Mr. Alvarez anchoring the hot corner soon....in the meantime, I hope the LaRoche brothers prove me wrong...but can't wait forever!

Hey Smitty - where is Neil Walker in this mix? He is one of the guys we are counting on to develop into top major league talent and a local boy to boot!

The man from Gibsonia is ''in development.'' Some of these lists note him as six in the Pirates organization. I remember Huntington when asked why he felt we needed to trade for LaRoche said the organization didn't perceive Walker as a starting 3b for Pirates in 2009. I saw him on the Caravan this year, he looks great. Should LaRoche struggle or get hurt again, the door will be open for Walker and I trust he can kick it in. Before Alvarez steps into the mix. I certainly trust all of our 3B prospects perform off the charts then we have a really great problem.
