Thursday’s Swab the Web

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Keep your eyes peeled at this link the next few days for what we trust will be the official John Daly coming out party.  http://www.3irishopen.ie/irish_open_standings.php The best writing I have seen done on the Crosby Ovie series is by Mike Wise.  He called Ovie the more clutch player after game two, but now he calls Crosby the more complete and versatile player.  In a way, it sounds like Mike would like to move to Pittsburgh.  Watching Crosby for seven games is fun huh Mike? [Washington Post] Some news on Pedro Alvarez from Lynchburg  [Post Gazette Notebook] The always entertaining world of Bengal football [...]

After Further Review… Adam LaRoche Makes Trivia History; Pirates Take Another One From Cards 5-2

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

With most of Pittsbugh focused on the Pens Caps in the House that Unused Cell Minutes Built tonight in DC.  We wanted to give you a quick snapshot of the matchup before all eyes move South.  Go Pens. UPDATE: My game recap is below: Adam LaRoche became the first MLB player to have a homer taken away by video replay. While the rest of the planet enjoyed the Pens, the Bucs kept on playing great baseball.  LaRoche doubled twice and Brandon Moss stayed hot with two hits and also scored twice.  Jack Wilson also had three hits after going 0-4 [...]

Dust Off the Jolly Roger: Duke Dazzling in Pirates Win Over Cardinals

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

I think it was how the game started that just caught my eye and said, “this one’s for you kid.”   Zach Duke struck out Cardinals leadoff man Skip Shumacher with one of the best pitches he has thrown all year.  He then got ahead quickly with an 0 and 2 count on SS Khalil Green and he forced a groundout to 3B Andy LaRoche. Duke was rolling. The count was 3-1 to Albert Pujols.  Pirate announcer Steve Blass threw out the whammy…”Duke has only given up two homers this year.”  Seconds later with Iron Mike Tomlin as my witness, Pujols made it 1-0 [...]

3rd Boss I take my hat off to your efforts.  Please print and send to MOM.  You are making a difference.  Now if the Bucs snap their skid tonight, you know I will need your captions for future editions of Rumbunter.    Amazed by the site of Moss actually on base a few Bucco fans bow their heads and pray to God it will not be the last time

The Bullpen Works in Indy*

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

I was desperately looking for some good news on the Pirates baseball front.  It has a small asterik, (a loss for the AAA Indians) but here you go.  The Indians needed help from their bullpen this afternoon after Syracuse jumped out to an early lead.  They finally got it in the form of some solid piching from three future Pirate hopefuls.  Four walks were recorded, which is troubling, but Brian Slocum (2.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 SO), Denny Bautista (1.2 IP, 2 BB, 3 SO) and Chris Bootcheck (1.0 IP, 1 SO) combined to hold Syracuse hitless, while also striking out [...]

Pirates Homestand Critical

So the Cardinals and Rockies will be in town this week.  Are you interested in how the Pirates will play in front of the hometown fans?  The Pirates are  already down in the cellar in attendance and nearly there in performance trailing only the Indians  for the worst record in the MLB.
