The New Bucs win again.  We all want something beautiful, and tonight at PNC Park was beautiful. Looking ahead to the Brewers series is actually fun again.  Just knowing that the Brewers aren’t going to beat the Pirates to a pulp feels quite good, doesn’t it?   Watching this Pirate team is exciting.  I am not afraid to admit that last week, I split viewing time between the Battling New Bucs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Yes.  It’s true. During our time at the ball yard two nights ago, we noticed bullpen coach Luis Dorante hitting infield.  Hmm.  Just curious why this happens after watching the Pirates bullpen lately? We were scratching our heads knowing that the Pirates are being outscored 75-38 in the crucial eighth inning. Don Long was intently watching the Pirates hit from behind the cage.  We didn’t see any other coaches during BP, but it just is hard to believe the best use of Dorante’s time is hitting ground balls to Brian Bixler.  I can’t buy that.       Andrew McCutchen jumps higher than Jordan.  FACT.  We learn something new every night with this Pirates ball club and last night was no different.  The Pirates earned the biggest win of the 2009 season hanging the ninth blown save on Phillies “closer” Brad Lidge.  Ok, I admit we weren’t thrilled with Luis Cruz leading off the ninth inning with the Bucs down a run after anti-closer Matt Capps gave away another lead to the World Champs, but hell, Cruz was facing Lidge.  Cruz had just made a great catch with the infield in to preserve a run, not that [...]

A quick look at a few Pittsburgh Pirates that we are glad are off the lot. Ian Snell  $3.2 million.  Whew.  Seattle is trying to figure out what is wrong under the hood with this one.  After I read this, the Yankees are glad they didn’t pick up this gas hog as he left his new Mariners stranded by the road.  After lasting 1.1 innings, Snell said, “they didn’t swing at many pitches,” that has to be my new favorite Snell quote.  Snell has eleven strikeouts and fifteen walks since becoming a Mariner. Kent Tekulve should be the bullpen coach of the Pirates.  I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, think this job through for just a moment.  We mean no offense to the current bullpen coach Luis Dorante but the Pirates are being owned in the eighth inning Coach!  The Pirates have allowed  75 runs in the eighth inning, the most runs allowed in any inning this season.  Check it out here.
