The Pittsburgh Pirates were one-hit by Yusmeiro Petit in a 6-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks last night.  Yeh, that Petit.  The same Diamondbacks pitcher whose fastball rarely reached 88mph.  The Pirates were shut down by the same pitcher who less than two weeks ago was rocked by the Pirates. On July 24 the Pirates tagged Petit for six runs and nine hits in 4.1 innings of a 10-3 loss. The Pirates were said to have driven Petit to the minors, but key injuries to the Snakes staff kept him around.  After last night the Pirates might have kept him in the majors permanently.  Petit brought a 1-5 [...]

Sean Burnett called out the Pittsburgh Pirates. Sean Burnett backed it up in back-to-back performances against the Pirates. Last night against the Pirates, Burnett faced Brandon Moss with two Pirates on in the eighth inning.  Steeeee-rikkkkkke Threeeee! My hat is off to you Burnie. It just sucks it took the Pirates trading Burnett to get him fired up.  He certainly had plenty of opportunity since being the Pirates number one pick.  But nonetheless, just like Porter had done on so many occassions, Burnett backed up his ‘voice of the fan.’   Porter and the Pit Bulls won 8-4 This game hurt me.  [...]

      JULY NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE “MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL CLUTCH PERFORMER OF THE MONTH PRESENTED BY PEPSI”         July nominees for the “Major League Baseball Clutch Performer of the Month Presented by Pepsi” were announced today.  This award recognizes the player who consistently performed at his best when the game was on the line during the month of July.  The six nominees are selected each month by a special editorial panel from MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, and fans vote for the monthly winner from among those nominees via an online ballot. Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is always a Rumbunter tradition. So we take a break from the Pirates coverage to give you some camp photos. This year was special as superagent Marc Roberts insisted we accept an on the field invite with his family. Each season Marc enjoys a week long vacation at Nemacolin, the world’s finest resort, and then embarks on a trip to Steelers camp. The entire event is captured on film. Thank you Marc for letting us be a part. So how did the team look? Un freaking beatable. Mark it down.    

The Pittsburgh Pirates desperately need power hitters.  The Pirates have put the weight squarely on the capable shoulders of Pedro Alvarez to provide the power for the new generation Bucs.  But we wanted to know who else could provide the Bucs with some big slugging, today we focus on the lower level of the system. We know that Alvarez is unmatched, His stats are sickand headed into today, Alvarez is hitting 353 in his last ten games.
