The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Reds. Lastings Milledge prevented the shutout with a homerun to set the final score at 4-1. The Pirates didn’t go away easy in the ninth inning however. The Bucs got a few baserunners against Francisco Cordero after Garrett Jones worked a leadoff walk, a liner was speared by Cordero and turned into a double play. Brandon Moss followed with a single and pinch hitter Ryan Doumit also singled. Jason Jaramillo made sure the Pirates were off the field before Obama arrived in town with a check swing strikeout to strand the runners and complete the [...]
Night of the Living Dead/Pirates/Alleghenies
The worst team in Pirates franchise history has come back from the dead. The Pittsburg Alleghenies. Or is this current team the worst in franchise history? The Pirates lost 12-2 last night. Surely, it’s a bad, bad dream. And I can’t take my eyes off of it. Maybe I am the sick one? There is a video below…well there should be, if the zombies didn’t break into your computer too…
The Pittsburgh Pirates had a great start to the game against division foe Cincinnatti when rookie Andrew McCutchen drilled his 12th homer of the year, his fourth lead off homer, into the left field seats. The lead and the mood seemed to be changing for the New Bucs. However, with one failed double play, the lead and the mood changed as the Reds chased five runs across in the fifth inning and never looked back. It shouldn’t have happened. A double play ball was made into an error by the Pirates and all of the Reds five runs followed that play. Cutch [...]
Rum Bunter Takes a Dumpage
The Washington Post is a great American establishment. The fact that I didn’t notice your favorite blog mentioned in it, solidifies my idiocy. Thanks cousin Cameron. You always were the bright one in the family even though your saddled with covering the Nats. And they still suck worse than the Bucs and appear to be the lucky winners in the Harper Bowl. [Washington Post] Cecil Cooper is out in Houston. The guy who we managed a team that called an official team meeting…during spring training (really) was pegged early by the Rum Bunter team to be in quicksand. The free agent moves were [...]
Send Help. Quick. Pirates Lose in 11th.
The Pittsburgh Pirates aren’t very good. You know that. San Diego took three of four games from the Bucs in the series. The Pirates are spiraling toward 100 losses. It is a train wreck and I just can’t take my eyes off of it. Watching 4,000 (ahem) fans in the stands is such a statement to the current state of affairs at PNC Park. The team battles. The team doesn’t have enough talent to win. Sloppy. The San Diego Padres scored five runs off Jeff Karstens in the eleventh inning to bust open a 6-6 game. It was an ugly inning, [...]
Rumbunter’s Monday Morning Dump
Steelers talk. [SteelCityInsider] Marky Mark, your Patriots suck. [TMZ] The Bears will win the Super Bowl if Bear Goggles On has anything to say about it. [Bear Goggles On] Big Boobs. Small Frame. Thank you for getting us through a Steelers loss. [Spewf] Happy Birthday Keeley. Trust me, click it [Busted Coverage] On Friday, Mark Madden called Jeff Reed the exception to the kickers are dispensable rule. [Madden 105.9 The X] Al Michaels calls the girls cage dancers last night at Cowboys Stadium. Nice video. Jerry Jones gets the credit for being a mastermind, yet again. [Yahoo Sports Shutdown Corner] Jim [...]
How Big Was The Ohlendorf Trade?
Ross Ohlendorf finished his season by throwing seven innings with five strikeouts and allowed only one earned run. Could you imagine the Pirates without Ohlendorf in the rotation? His last ten starts Ross had a 2.77 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. His time spent in the Yankees organization and his familarity with Kerrigan surely helped, but Ross certainly worked hard on improving and became one of the Pirates most improved players this season. Ohlendorf was solid each month of the season. He had big wins against Milwaukee, St Louis, and Colorado. He pitched well enough to win in several other [...]
Pirate Fans: Dare We Say the Future Looks Bright?
The Pittsburgh Pirates took the day off and we have two great stories. Lynchburg captures the title and Pedro goes off. What a great day for Pirates fans everywhere. Lynchburg swept Salem to win the Mills Cup. Read all the details on the home of Hillcats baseball here. Shortstop Jordy Mercer, the pride of Oklahoma, went 4-for-5, with two RBI on the night. Pop the corks and Congratulations! _______________________ Surely, you have read it about forty times now, but in case you somehow missed it Pedro Alvarez hit three dongs for Team USA (6-1; 4-0). Check out the magical record setting performance by [...]
Hit The Ball! Pirates Lose 3-1
The Pirates lost yesterday to the Dodgers 3-1. Nothing more, nothing less than the headline needs to be said. We can review statistics, OPS, slugging, but really….Buccos, just hit the damn ball. The last 13 Pirates batters went without a hit. That won’t cut it. Ever.
Ugh. Pirates Bullpen Fails. Again. Dodgers Win in 13th
The Pirates took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning last night. Matt Capps, looking for his 26th save, was on the mound to face the 2-3-4 hitters in the Dodgers lineup. Russell Martin, the Dodgers catcher, popped up to LaRoche. One out. The 52,562 Dodger Blue faithful cheered as Andre ‘King of the Walkoff’ Etheir ripped the ball down the first base line and off the wall in right field for a double. Manny Ramirez was not walked, instead Capps went right at Manny. 96mph fastballs and 90mph sliders evened the count at 2-2 and a Capps [...]
