The Hillcats are streaking! A run in the eighth tied the game and one in the bottom of the ninth won it as the Cats jump out to a 2-0 lead in the Mills Cup Championship. Chase D’Arnaud worked a leadoff walk in the eighth and would score on a bases loaded walk to Jamie Romak. With the score knotted at 4-4 and down to the last out in the ninth, series hero Jose De Los Santos ripped a homer into the left-field seats to end it and send the Lynchburg faithful into hysteria. P.S. It was De Lo’s first [...]
Dodgers Rip Pirates 6-2
The Pirates got drilled by the Dodgers in MannyWood. Daniel McCutchen just couldn’t stay out of trouble and allowed four runs in five innings. Andy LaRoche had a couple hits while Ryan Doumit and Ramon Vazquez got the RBI for the Bucs. LA native Delwyn Young headed back home, but didn’t play as he has back spasms. Ugh. Here is the recap in DY’s LA Times. They call the Pirates lowly and make hot dog jokes (another newspaper that doesn’t like promotions) before saying the Dodgers can’t take the Bucs for granted. Heh, thanks JAMES. The Pirates play the Dodgers six [...]
Pirates Prospect Kyle McPherson Interview
At some point in your life, someone gave you some bad news. The kind of news that wasn’t expected. For Kyle McPherson it was earlier this year after performing quite well for the West Virginia Power. McPherson would not be moved up in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, but sent back a level. A pitcher that compiled a 5-2 record with 32 strikeouts and six walks was told to go back to State College. Perhaps, the South Atlantic League hitting wasn’t as good as the New York-Penn League? Whatever the reason, it surely didn’t slow McPherson down. He is not the type [...]
PSAMP Gets Snoop Fake Pittsburgh Scoop
Snoop Dogg Fake Pittsburgh Fan, Lynchburg Hillcats, and Surfing Tony Sanchez proved why he was a great pick in the amateur draft last night. Sanchez hit a two-run bomb in the eighth inning to break the 2-2 with Wilmington. Jamie Romak had a monster game. He was the spark plug in the sixth and the eighth innings. His leadoff double started the eighth and he was plated when the Sanchez homer landed in the left field seats. Romak singled to leadoff the sixth inning. He scored later in the inning on Alex Presley’s single. Lynchburg lives to play another one today. Here [...]
Bud Norris Acts Like Chuck Norris; Astros Crush Pirates
The Pirates continued to struggle on the road and suffered a 9-1 loss to the Astros. The Pirates have lost 30 of 35 and 12 in a row on the road. Astros pitcher Bud Norris mowed down the Pirate hitters, just like he has opposing batters all year. I mean, well…whatever.
Pirates, Team USA, McPherson Invite to Instructional League Grab the Friday Lead at Rum Bunter
Rum Bunter is proud to announce we spoke with State College Spikes Pitcher of the Year, Kyle McPherson today.
Jermaine Jackson was all over the news last night wasn’t he? I read about it here in Rolling Stone. Jermaine announced the performers for a tribute concert for his brother Michael. Some big names…Mary J. Blige. Chris Brown.
Mark Wins Under Armour Contest
Mark put together the best post on why the Bucs play so much better at PNC Park than on the road. 5. I’m in the house. The Pirates are 9-1 when I’m in the Burgh. Wish I lived closer 4. Big Yellow- Look at this guy. Every night he busts a move regardless of the score. He’s in the old school 70’s jersey keeping score with binoculars on.
Howard Bryant is a Class Act
We got a mention in the excellent article about the Pirates pathetic past 17 years. It was written by Howard Bryant of ESPN. Bryant nailed the topic better than anyone. Stop and take a couple minutes to read it right now by clicking here. You won’t be disappointed.
Pirates at 17-What Does It Mean?
The Pirates lost their 82nd game and set a new record for most consecutive losing seasons but what does that mean? It means the obvious, that this has not been a good team for a long time. Beyond that it is just a number. It is something to talk about.
