The Hillcats are streaking!  A run in the eighth tied the game and one in the bottom of the ninth won it as the Cats jump out to a 2-0 lead in the Mills Cup Championship.  Chase D’Arnaud worked a leadoff walk in the eighth and would score on a bases loaded walk to Jamie Romak. The Pirates got drilled by the Dodgers in MannyWood. Daniel McCutchen just couldn’t stay out of trouble and allowed four runs in five innings.   Andy LaRoche had a couple hits while Ryan Doumit and Ramon Vazquez got the RBI for the Bucs. At some point in your life, someone gave you some bad news. The kind of news that wasn’t expected.  For Kyle McPherson it was earlier this year after performing quite well for the West Virginia Power. McPherson would not be moved up in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, but sent back a level.  A pitcher that compiled a 5-2 record with 32 strikeouts and six walks was told to go back to State College. Snoop Dogg Fake Pittsburgh Fan, Lynchburg Hillcats, and Surfing Tony Sanchez proved why he was a great pick in the amateur draft last night.  Sanchez hit a two-run bomb in the eighth inning to break the 2-2 with Wilmington.  Jamie Romak had a monster game.  He was the spark plug in the sixth and the eighth innings.  His leadoff double started the eighth and he was plated when the Sanchez homer landed in the left field seats.  Romak singled to leadoff the sixth inning.  He scored later in the inning on Alex Presley’s single. The Pirates continued to struggle on the road and suffered a 9-1 loss to the Astros.  The Pirates have lost 30 of 35 and 12 in a row on the road. Astros pitcher Bud Norris mowed down the Pirate hitters, just like he has opposing batters all year.  I mean, well…whatever.

The Pirates lost their 82nd game and set a new record for most consecutive losing seasons but what does that mean? It means the obvious, that this has not been a good team for a long time. Beyond that it is just a number. It is something to talk about.
