I could watch this color video (1:08) of Maz’s homerun in the 1960 World Series all afternoon.
That video made you feel good didn’t it? If you had the opportunity to tell Maz thank you in person, you certainly would jump on it right?
Well heh, guess what you can. It’s the big anniversary of that amazing Pirates 1960 Series this year so make certain you click over and get registered right now…. June 7 and 8, 2010 is the Bill Mazeroski Baseball Scholarship Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament at Nemacolin. All the details you need are located at Golf4Maz including the many athletes who will be [...]

Public Enemy rolled into DC for a great cause a few weeks back, National Homeless Awareness Month. Big kudos to Virgin Mobile.
Thanks to my friend Amy for the link, but we never thought we would make a Pittsburgh Pirate connection. The first thing I thought was heh, Chuck D traded in the Phillies hat from the Fight the Power video.
Sure he has worn a Bucs hat before, but it’s nice to see he broke it back out. Especially in DC with all those former Pirates calling us laughingstocks. Chuck probably sees all these Pirate prospects getting to PNC soon.
Chuck, one favor…. how about [...]

Rum Bunter has yet to find the elusive Honus Wagner card that sold for $2.8 million, but thinking it could have been misplaced with the awful Pittsburgh Pirate cards of the past decade, we took a look.
No luck.
But we were able to compile a Pirates All-Decade collection worthy of the incinerator EBay account. We will eventually post ‘em for auction, so please no emails until we get around to it. Until then, feast your eyes, but don’t spill anything on them dammit.
The All-Decade Card Collection:
Catcher Keith Osik had a career year in 2000 when he hit .293. The Pirates gave him an $800K contract the next season. Osik never hit again. However, his [...]

Octavio Dotel has been an effective set man who recovered from Tommy John surgery a few years ago. NBC Sports is reporting the Bucs are interested in him being the closer. He is 36 years old. (Heh, there is the veteran presence everyone says we need so desperately.) [Fan Graphs Octavio Dotel]
He got $6 million to not be the closer with the Sox. The deal is reported at $3 million plus incentives from the Bucs. The allure of the closer Octavio…imagine the entrance music again my friend, 19,000 screaming fans on the edge of their seats…
Leadership? Sure we can argue about that. Streaky? [...]

Former Pittsburgh Pirate Raul Mondesi is a pretty well known name in Pittsburgh, he played with the Pirates for a while. Mondesi then did the unthinkable, he got tired of being a Pirate and traded in his dirty eyepatch for a first-place Angels halo.
Mondesi is now a politician in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. It’s also pleasant to see Raul is up to his old tricks again. He pulled an Arlen Specter and switched parties. Of course some of the political pundits aren’t big fans. He is now running for mayor of San Cristobal, the country’s sixth largest city.
Mondesi’s competiton for the mayoral seat is a politician named Jose Rijo. Yeh, [...]

Akinori Iwamura is a Pittsburgh Pirate. RumBunter is proud to write that sentence. But it pisses off the Twins fans… What on Earth Do the Pirates Want with Aki?
Many Pirate fans had an knee jerk negative reaction as it went against the moves the Pirates have made recently. We didn’t feel that way, but it’s easy to argue. For the Twins fans, what did you want the Bucs to do after you stole Sano from the Pirates?
It’s just a few months until the new Pirate TV ads are released. The storyboard ideas are being thrown around as we type. What do Pirate fans have to look forward to [...]

Johnny Damon wasn’t exactly Ben Roethlisberger on the WWE microphone. Wow, it was nice to know that the Steeler QB recently mentioned in the same breath as Hall of Famer, Yelberton Abraham Tittle, or as his buddies in Canton call him, Y.A. Tittle , can also look comfortable in the world of sports entertainment.
Now for Johnny, well surely someone is going to sign you in spite of Scott Boras’ blunder. But please Johnny Johnny, please…stay on the baseball diamond. This complicated stuff with a microphone, making jokes, and getting attacked by 86-year old female wrestler Mae Young that is real work and best [...]

Just admit it, you miss PNC Park already. Let ‘em have it Ken….
Thanks to a tip from Sooze, we discovered Nine More Outs will be releasing Episode II of their insider reviews of baseball parks (disguised as fans of the team) in February. If you didn’t see Episode I when they dressed in powder blue and acted as Blue Jays fans, well check it out here at Babes Love Baseball. God, this will be hilarious.
