Brendan Donnelly New Bullpen Storyteller

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brendan Donnelly was signed by the Pirates to a major league deal.  The one year deal with incentives seemed a bit much to pay, but hell it’s not my money.   After digging through background on this story, Donnelly scares us to death, but what a helluva story.  We put together a pro con list. Pros: Probably loves fireworks after being born on Fourth of July.  Pittsburgh has plenty. Experience.  He has a World Series Ring.  He has pitched 20 innings in the post season.    How sweet would it be to listen to this wild man wax nostaglic?  The guy has played all over the place, ( [...]

Ryan Church: Pride. Passion. Pray for Revival [VIDEO]

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Dejan got this quote from Ryan Church On PNC Park: “I love it. I really do. And I like that short porch in right, but I also like how it works for me as a gap-to-gap guy. I get doubles, and I’d like to put a few into that left-center gap there and run. Defensively, I’m looking forward to playing with Jones, McCutchen and Milledge. I take a lot of pride in my defense, and I’ll learn all I can from those guys about how the outfield there plays.” We were staring at the game by game breakdowns on Church [...]

Which Ryan Church Will We See?

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ryan Church  is a Pittsburgh Pirate.  Just one detail appears to be needed, a physical.  Shouldn’t be a problem we assume… HISTORY 2005:  Church was a ROY candidate until he ran into the wall at PNC Park in June.   He was hitting 325 and had a slugging of 544.  He never recovered from kissing the green cushions at PNC and made two trips to the DL. 2006:  A lost year for Church. 2007:   Breakout year with a 272/464/813.  In November, the Nats traded him to the Mets for Lastings Milledge. 2008:  The head injuries.  Concussion I:  Spring training game in March against [...]

Mark McGwire? What? No Way?

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mark McGwire did steroids?   Do Cardinals fans know about this….holy hell, I am shocked. “I wish I had never touched steroids,” McGwire said in a statement. “It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”  Ok, Mark your voice doesn’t need to crack.  It’s ok.  Don’t apologize.  What does that do?  You would do it all again. Just give the records back and give the money back.  Also, finish the story.  Was or was not HGH involved as well?  Come on man, let those tears flow big [...]

Pirates Jonathan Van Every This Year’s Miracle?

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Jonathan Van Every is a 30 year old outfielder who is going to be the underdog you are cheering for in Spring Training.  Growing up outside Jackson, Mississippi his very first spoken word was ‘ball.’  He last played for the Boston Red Sox.  How he got there is a wild ride.  As you know, the Red Sox are a difficult organization to come through the ranks and earn a spot on the major league roster.  Let alone sign a minor league free agent deal and do it.  But Van Every did.

Pirates Undecided on Jean Machi Picture, Uviedo, Chapman Makeup

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Pirates need bullpen help.    If you’re paying attention to what two of their relief pitchers are doing this winter, maybe help is on the way.   The spring training is also rumored to feature a battle at shortstop. Are you jonesin’ to see some Pirates in action?  This is the best we could come up with for your baseball jones. One Pirate SS, this one the favorite for the job, Ronny Cedeno, is trying to prove he can do it all for Coach Carlos Garcia.  Watch the video here if the one below doesn’t work. Perhaps the front office realizes [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Pedro Alvarez had one pitch to hit on August 1, 2009. Check out what he does with that pitch after he waits for the announcer, then the obligatory crowd response….(it’s worth the wait…)   It’s so good there are two YouTube angles for you…    Thanks to AnarchyinPa for the first angle and Mensrum for the second video

Jerome Bettis Tells Scott Caan He’s a Speed Bump; Kinda Like Urlacher[VIDEO]

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jerome Bettis tells Scott Caan, the Host and Head Coach of NFL Network’s Department of Fandemonium, “I don’t think so,” when Caan asks if he could tackle the Bus.  Hilarious.  Vote Now:  NFL.Monster.com Scott, West Canaan, Texas and Varsity Blues was a movie and a damn good one, my man. What Bussie did to Brian Urlacher, well, that was Steeler football. Or used to be. Scott have you ever thought about coaching special teams?
