Brad Bergensen was 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA with 19 starts in his rookie campaign. In December, Bergensen was hurt while throwing for the commercial below. The AP report said he had thrown too hard during the shoot. His season was cut short when he took a Billy Butler liner off his shin on July 30. Apparently, Bergensen hadn’t thrown off a mound since August.
The Bucs faced Bergensen in his spring debut nine days ago. Bergesen allowed two earned runs, three hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings in the Orioles’ eventual 3-2 win, reaching his maximum pitch count of 35 on Steve Pearce’s run-scoring line single to left field. Pedro Alvarez had an RBI double off Bergensen before the Pearce single.
From Rob Biertempfel today: Daniel McCutchen will start Sunday. Kevin Hart will start a AAA game on Monday. Shelby Ford and Starling Marte will be up for today’g game.
