Dejan just tweeted that Pittsburgh Pirates manager John Russell said Neil Walker will play the ‘majority’ of time at second base. Aki Iwamura is going to the bench. It’s an interesting comment after GM Neal Huntington responded to a Greg Brown question yesterday by saying that Walker ‘could’ be considered for one position rather than being moved around the ball field. I’m so confused. Life comes at you fast. I am going to go back to reading my MLB Bonus Baby top 100 prospects list and this story at FanGraphs where they recommend what the Bucs should do with the number two pick.
‘Hack and Hope’ Jose Bautista is Crushing the Ball
As Pirates fans, we are all aware of Don Long’s strategy with the Pirates hitters when they struggle. Long has been known to shorten the swing of the hitters when they are struggling. Does it
Jason Heyward Really Does Walk on Water
Help is Coming for the Pirates, But When?
Is Huntington Shopping for Starting Pitching?
Ahh, the PhotoShop junk pile. Heading into the 2010 season, the Pirates front office felt the starting pitching
Huntington Holding Off on Call for Backup
Prior to the Pittsburgh Pirates being swept by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, Pirates GM Neal Huntington held his weekly show with Greg Brown. Huntington mentioned that
The Pittsburgh Pirates attempt to slow down the red hot Atlanta Braves today in Atlanta. A win will salvage some pride especially against a team like the Braves who have scored more runs than any team in the NL. They also have a 17-8 record in May. The Pirates are leaning heavily on Paul Maholm, who is 2-2 in May, and starts today against Kenshin Kawakami. The Braves version of Charlie Morton in his ability to secure wins as Kawakami is 0-7 and has suffered mainly from bad luck. He hasn’t allowed more than five earned runs in any of [...]
Dennis Hopper Video Tribute
I am a huge Dennis Hopper fan. RIP Dennis. We were inspired by Hopper from his Nike commercials at the bottom of this post so much so that we had to do our own version for my favorite team the Pittsburgh Pirates. We wrote our knockoffs over the winter and filmed a few weeks back. The Nike commercials were done so well, they were eventually pulled. Hopper was just too convincing. Our versions didn’t even get 300 views. Oh well. I never had heard of Dennis Hopper until I saw Apocalypse Now. It was a wonderful discovery. It hasn’t been the same since. [...]
McCutchen Back at Leadoff Tonight for Pirates
Andrew McCutchen is back in the correct spot in the batting order. Cutch will be leading off for the Pirates tonight against the Atlanta Braves. I like the move. Ronny Cedeno and Andy LaRoche are also starting tonight for the Pirates who are attempting to get back on track and avoid going ten games under .500 prior to Memorial Day. Neil Walker gets another start for the Pirates at second base. Andy LaRoche is back in the lineup after ripping a ball last night showed no signs of continued back discomfort for the Pirates third baseman. Garrett Jones is in [...]
