Did Pirates Manager John Russell Need Sedated Yesterday?

I think I witnessed Johnny Russell pull a Johnny Ramone yesterday.  The Pittsburgh Pirates John Russell has had a difficult time as manager of the young ball club. Yesterday we were listening to the game and Pirates broadcaster John ‘The Rock’ Wehner insisted Ronny Cedeno was bunting without direction from the coaching staff.

We have to admit it didn’t make sense with Pirates on first and second and nobody out.  Mainly because the pitcher, Brad Lincoln was up next.  Sure Lincoln is a good hitter for a pitcher, but come on.  So when we watched the FSN broadcast on Tivo last night, we got no indication that the Pirates coaching staff was upset with Cedeno. We would think someone on the coaching staff would be livid if a player did his own thing in a scoreless ball game in the fifth inning.

After the Cedeno fail, the Pirates still had runners on first and second with one out and pitcher Brad Lincoln at the plate.  Johnny headed for the end of the bench. We thought he might be going to have a talk with Cedeno. Nope. He just needed something…..
