Greetings from a Giants fan (to fans of my favorite NL Central team -- I'm sitting here with [literally] an Amazon parrot on my shoulder),

There's another reason for optimism not listed: John Bowker. The guy is a huge question mark -- huge power, huge disappointment with the Giants. Stick him out in left field for a full season and he could put up huge numbers, as in 30-35 HRs and 90+ RBIs. He probably won't (I think he's a 4-A player), but given what the Pirates gave up it's a good gamble.

Peace (or should that be "Aaaaarrrrh!"?)
Chaz

P.S. Martinez projects as either a long-relief guy or a #5 starter. He's an innings eater, but don't expect anything south of a 4.5 ERA.
