Steelers Sepulveda Kicks Deep

Last night at Latrobe High School, Pittsburgh Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda was on the kickoff team for four kicks. Sepulveda kicked the football eight yards deep, two yards deep, and to the two yard line twice.

“I liked it,” said Tomlin. “Daniel Sepulveda might provide us with a legitimate options there. I liked his placement of the ball, I liked his hang time. He’s worked a lot at it. He didn’t have any exposure in that area prior to getting here. That just speaks to what he is – he’s always willing to do whatever for us.”

The Steelers have teased us before with using Sepuveda in training camp.  But he has never been used in a game.

But please excuse me. It feels different.  I am going to be celebrating for the next twelve hours, even if it might be a dream.  Later

Unlike two-hand touch football player Jeff Reed, Sepulveda is a real football player, and just the sort Steelers fans should love. He’s always done the right thing when asked about kicking off and deferred to his teammate Reed, saying Reed’s better at it. But the fact that Sepulveda’s been working at it is great news. A better use of time than spending it learning how best to defeat a paper towel dispenser.

And the best part is if Sepulveda ends up able to do the kickoffs that gives us an extra player on coverage. Which, after last year’s disasters, will be most welcome.
