Break Out The Lucha Masks: Steelers Countdown Begins

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

The official start of the Pittsburgh Steelers NFL season is right around the corner.  You know what that means.  It’s time to take the black and gold lucha mascaras off its coveted shrine and head to your favorite watering hole. Training time is running out.  The very last thing you can do is show up at Heinz Field unprepared.   No true luchadore lifts the mask to sip the Iron.  We have for you below two excellent examples from this weekend.  Photos:  Deadspin via Twitter; Eric Mc

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s true ladies.  It’s true.  Of course all of us guys knew it for a long time.  If you’re a fan of the Pirates, the women flock to you. Check out the guy at the ten second mark with his chest protector book bag, what a pimp. Just look at the werewolf Taylor Lautner getting eyes from all the ladies at PNC Park. Bandwagon jerk.

The Pirates Financial Statements Hit The Inboxes Of America

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

` You always wanted to be in the baseball business?  Well, have it.  Deadspin has 28 pages of the 2007 and 2008 financial statements.  Follow this link to the 2009 quarterly financial statement for quarter ended July 31 which shows the slowing of top line revenue for the Pirates.  But the thing that stands out for me is while the top line slowed,

What A Wild Week For The Pittsburgh Pirates

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well that was a wild week.  The Pittsburgh Pirates believed they could get some of the best amateur pitching in the country.  The club writes two checks and two flame throwing teenagers leave college full rides on the table for dreams of playing in PNC Park.  Then the wild card came along and the Pittsburgh Baseball Club outbid and out worked Major League baseball’s most storied franchises for the rights to Luis Heredia, the Mexican 16-year old phenom.  No, it’s not the latest movie being shot in Pittsburgh, it’s the real deal.

Leak Forces Pirates To Open Books: Recession?? Pirates Rolling In Cash

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

While most businesses in the world are struggling, the Pirates held a press conference today after a leak had reportedly released financial statements  to the AP.  The meeting was to discuss just how healthy the organization really is.   It was part damage control, part inevitable.  Sooner or later, this day would come.

Pay No Attention To The Results

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

` The Pittsburgh Pirates played that badly after a closed door team meeting.  The Pirates dropped a rain-shortened game to the New York Mets 5-1 last night at PNC Park in front of a really nice crowd.  Pirates fans sat through the rain and the jeers of the Mets faithful to watch a team that have already clinched their 18th consecutive losing season.  Why?  Why do Pirates fans have such a passion for baseball?  Shouldn’t fans just give up on the major league club and stare at the Altoona Curve stats?

The Day Elvis Met Nixon.

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

Two great Americans.  It seemed odd to watch ace level pitcher Jameson Taillon trying on a Pitsburgh Pirates jersey this week.  But then VH1 classic put it all in persepective for me.  Apparently Elvis met President Nixon too.  And snuck in a loaded handgun. America is still the best county on earth.    The Pirates might not be the worst baseball team in the world forever after all.

Dad, Why Is Everyone Booing?

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was such a perfect day for a father and son to enjoy the great game of baseball. We had escaped the confines of home with two last minute tickets to see the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the New York Mets.  We put Mom in the rear view mirror so fast the boy forgot his shoes.  It was too late to turn around

Is Jose Bautista Messing With Neal Huntingtons Head?

AUTHOR: | IN: Pittsburgh Pirates | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

We were fortunate enough to be at the game tonight for the graduation party of the Pirates losing streak.  From the outset, it was apparent Jeff Karstens had changed his focus.  As soon as Reyes reached base, it was a mess.   It was Jeff Karstens Frosted Flakes Reduced Sugar.  ` ` What’s the point?  He threw over so many times we lost count.  It was something Joe Kerrigan wasn’t a big fan of for the Pirates pitchers to do, we lost count. Maybe Kerrigan had a point with Karstens specifically.  Coming into the game Karstens had an ERA of 3.18 in [...]
