The 2011 Pittsburgh Pirates non-roster invites to Spring Training is growing today after the Bucs reached deals Jose Veras and former Indians catcher Wyatt ‘Yee-Haw’ Toregas. We will get the details together and post later tonight. The non-roster count is at 22 with 10 pitchers, three catchers, six center fielders, and three outfielders.

The Pirates have also invited Tony Sanchez, Chase d’Arnaud, Brian Friday, Andrew Lambo and Eric Fryer to Spring Training.  Fryer will do some catching.

Do the Bucs come north with Scott Olsen as the only southpaw out of the pen? Or has Donnie Veal worked out his control problems and makes the team by default?

    • http://rumbunter.com Tom Smith

Unfortunately, Veal won’t be ready. As of now it looks like Olsen is the guy. Burres is non-roster invite. Watson is long shot. Gotta believe a move is in the works to address this situation for example, Doumit might bring a lefty.

Doumit won’t bring much, unless its to an AL team.
