didn’t make a move as we thought they would at high noon today.  Instead it was simple for the Bucs.  Ramon Aguero was designated for assignment to open a spot for strikeout heavy reliever Jose Veras on the Opening Day roster.

The Pirates also placed Chris Snyder (and his back) on the 15-day disabled list. Snyder can come back on April 9. The black and gold also added pitchers to the DL including RHP Jose Ascanio and Brad Lincoln along with Marlboro Man LHP Scott Olsen. Ascanio and Olsen have shoulder issues, Lincoln was hit with a line drive and has been slow to recover from the bruise, Olsen is Olsen and we love him.

James McDonald pitched well against the Yankees AAA squad today, so the Bucs must feel he is ready to get some cold weather throwing in during the month of April.  We just groaned a little bit thinking about it as we furiously knock on wood.

The Bucs also announced the patch to be worn in honor of skipper Chuck Tanner. Contributions in Tanner’s honor can be made to the “Chuck Tanner ‘We Are Family Fund’” c/o Pirates Charities, 115 Federal Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Also today the Pirates signed Tim Wood and his low 90′s heat.    Not Kerry.
