Brandon Wood Is A Pirate, Roster Moves Forthcoming

The Pittsburgh Pirates made a waiver claim for Richard Brandon Wood

As was speculated, the Pittsburgh Pirates claimed Richard Brandon Wood off waivers from the Angels today. The infielder was designated for assignment earlier this week despite having an excellent spring training, but getting off to yet another slow start for the big league club.

The Pirates said in their press release they will make “corresponding roster moves” later this afternoon. The plural part of the sentence caught our attention.

In 2005, Wood was named California League MVP and The Sporting News ‘ Minor League Player of the Year.

So far the Bucs haven’t put Wood on the roster. But, they called up Ciriaco and DFA’d Rodriquez. Therefor, they have 2 shortstops on the roster. Where does that leave Wood?
