Pirates Evan Meek To Disabled List

A virus has done what few hitters could do last season to Pittsburgh Pirates 2010 All-Star Evan Meek. The virus has hit Meek hard, and according to sources speaking with  Dejan Kovacevic,  it will land the right hander – who was so effective last season – on the DL.

This season, Meek has made eleven appearance and sports an un-Meek like 5.62 ERA.  When we visited spring training he didn’t participate,  and for most of April has been fighting a virus of some sort that has sapped strength and “weakened”  his shoulder.

Dejan reports that the team’s plan is to make the DL stint retroactive to yesterday.

The moves for relief pitching this month now make even more sense as the Pirates have a few options at AAA in Blaine Boyer, hard throwing Tim Wood, and even lefty Daniel Moskos.  But the real bullpen success story of the season thus far has been the performance of Chris Resop, now in the setup role once held by Meek.  How big is Huntington’s decision to grab him from the Braves now?
