Pittsburgh Pirates Make Call For Tony Watson

The Pittsburgh Pirates

added another lefthander to the bullpen today by designating Jose Ascanio for assignment.

Tony Watson has finally got the call.  We thought the Bucs forgot about him.   The 6’4″ lefty has been striking out batters, giving up very few hits and has pitched as well as anyone at AAA Indianapolis.

It will be nice to not hold our breath watching Ascanio anymore, Watson has performed well, deserved the call, and we trust will be an effective option for the Bucs bullpen.

His strikeout numbers are strong and Watson has pitched over an inning in five of his past ten appearances.  It would nice to see that continue for the Pirates.  Screw the situational shitt, let the guy pitch.  In Watson’s past ten appearances (11.2IP) he has struckout 13 bad guys.

On the year, the Iowa native has held left handed batters to a .156 average while keeping righties to a .189 clip.

Ascanio is simply not the same. He teased everyone with an outstanding debut and has looked poor since. Perhaps every other team in the league missed the one good outing. It would be nice to be able to hang on to Ascanio, just in case he can get it back together.

But for now, it’s obvious that Watson was the right call.
