The Pirates Gaping Hole at First Base

June 18, 2011

.

As you know, the Pittsburgh Pirates have a few holes in the lineup. None might be larger than the batter in the six hole tonight in Cleveland.  The Pirates firstbaseman Lyle Overbay has been awful.

It’s a familiar situation for Overbay.  Last year he started out slow for Toronto.  Really slow…

.

Over his past ten games in black and gold,  Overbay is hitting .133.

Overbay has saw his average drop from his lofty .240 on June 8 to .226 headed into tonight against the Cleveland Indians. On the season his OPS is .657 and his slugging is .355.  He has just five homers, a triple, and 13 doubles.

His last homerun was May 28.

His last extra base hit was ten games ago.

Overbay hasn’t had a hit in five games.

But heh, he has walked five times in his past ten..

Enough said.
