Pirates AAA team, the Indianapolis Indians, wrapped up play yesterday. We had much higher hopes for a team built from some experienced players. Nonetheless, the biggest piece of the Pirates’ future didn’t play for the Tribe yesterday.
Perhaps Pedro Alvarez was packing his bags to head to PNC Park?
In his usual detailed fashion, a break might be just what Pedro needs, according to Gene Collier. The Post Gazette’s best writer has an interesting take on what Alvarez should do this winter:
We’re with Collier on this, but with a slightly different take… Pedro was impressive in the majors when he went to that psycho health clinic in the desert.
If you consider a ‘break’ from the game for Alvarez, that seemed to be last off season when he was having the greatest day in his life – walking down the aisle to get married. Going to play winter ball doesn’t seem like such a great idea to us.
We didn’t always feel this way, but after watching the rather young Bucs this season, it became obvious. This exercise shit must be the key. Pedro needs his body to be a machine.
If we were advising Pedro, we would tell him to go south – to the place where they make athletes into machines, the Athletes Performance Institute in Phoenix.
What would you tell Pedro to do?
