Andrew McCutchen Does Bad Things, Pirates Rookie Is Animal
By Tom Smith
The Pittsburgh Pirates
came from behind to defeat the Houston Astros 5-4. Make no mistake – Andrew McCutchen can carry the Pittsburgh Pirates. Well, against the Houston Astros he can.
For a while, JAY Happ, JA, J.A. whatever,…… the guy put on a clinic. Thankfully, it ended abruptly.
Pirates’ starter Brian Burres was bad. Really bad. It was nice to see him pulled before it got ugly. Many people were looking forward to seeing Jared Hughes. Damn.
Hughes has really improved since we saw him, or since we saw him have an off night in ‘Toona town.
Hughes was fascinating to watch. The whole mouth wide open and crotch grabbing, baseball pants hiking moves are impressive from the rookie.
The Pirates got three straight pinch hits to scratch out a run in the eighth on a Jason “JHammer” Jaramillo single. It was a laugher. Anyway, that’s all we got. The Bucs took another series after grabbing the first win. The leg wasn’t swept, so it’s not good enough.
Pittsburgh Pirates’ skipper Clint Hurdle earned his 600th win.
"I don’t have many balls in my collection. Think I have the 500th. Tonight, Jeff gave me the ball, I will keep this one."
Other comments from Hurdle:
"No pinch hits since Diaz left town.JJ battling, real nice piece of hitting.Cutch I love when he opens the right centerfield gap. We’ve seen shades of it. That is a grown man hitting a ball that deep to right center field. Cutch likes to eat up there. He goes up there with bad intentions."
