Pirates Standouts McPherson, Hague, and Morris Visit Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Pirates

invited some of their top talent to the big leagues over the weekend.  The timing couldn’t have been worse.  Matt Hague, Bryan Morris, and Kyle McPherson might have witnessed one of the most disappointing series of the season as the Miami Marlins swept the Pirates.

Perhaps it will motivate the trio to have a strong off-season, because it’s quite obvious the Pirates need some help next season.  Morris and McPherson will need to continue to show improvement at the AAA level.  It’s a big step for both players, and early season success could mean a jump to Pittsburgh in 2012 for both of the right handers.  In 2011, the Bucs sent four strong prospects to AAA.  Each of them had performed well at AA over the course of the season, but only Jeff Locke showed sustained success and earned a call up to Pittsburgh.

The mysterious case of Matt Hague baffled many Pirates fans.  Hague seemed to do everything the Pirates asked of him – including lead the league in hits – but it still wasn’t enough.  Perhaps things could change next season, especially considering the Pirates have a massive hole to fill at first base.

One thing is certain for next season: each of these players would like to spend more than a late season vacation with the big club.

Kristy Robinson was able to get video from each of the talented players.
