With the Pittsburgh Pirates pulling out of the VSL, the country has just five MLB teams participating in the league.

Pittsburgh Pirates Latest MLB Team to Pull Out of Venezuela

A report today says that the Pittsburgh Pirates will not be participating in the Venezuelan Summer League next season.  If true, the league reminds us of a fast pitch softball league.  With the Bucs pulling out, the league now would have only five teams.

It’s a shame that such a baseball talent rich region can be impacted by a supposed leader of such a beautiful country.  Damn shame.

To compensate, the Bucs will have two teams in the DSL which will operate from the Dominican Academy which is the facility Pirates owner Bob Nutting built a few years ago.

Here is the article from Jen Langosch

It’s worth acknowledging that nobody is talking about pulling out of the Winter League, which offers a higher level of play than the Summer League. The level of play there seems too good to pass up for some (though the pitching isn’t really anything to write home about).

It’s easy to blame the leader here, but the bigger problem is the enforcement of laws, particularly criminal violations and their follow-up. Yeah, you can argue that stuff begins with the President but the problem is far-reaching and touches state and municipal-level governments just the same.

Is it to good to pass up, or simply one of the few options?

The leader will always shoulder the blame. It’s how it works.
