Where Do the Pittsburgh Pirates Broadcasters Rank in Major League Baseball?

The solid play on the field of Pirates pitcher Steve Blass paid off in the Wall Street Journal today.

The Pittsburgh Pirates broadcasting crew was judged against other Major League broadcasters.  It was a genius idea and you can find it today in the Wall Street Journal.  We think you might be a bit surprised.

Suck it Milwaukee.  The Pirates broadcasters own you.

So what did they use to rank each team? Wins Above Replacement. It’s brilliant.

Thankfully the WSJ took the best WAR into account meaning only Steve Blass (7.1) and Bob Walk (5.9) were used. They didn’t allow the Pirates to be drug down by the -0.9 career WAR of John Wehner.
