Grossman Hits Homer, Cunningham Hitless in AFL Opener

Robbie Grossman for FSL MVP Facebook Campaign

Grossman had two hits for the Mesa Solar Sox today.  Grossman played right field and belted a homer that Keith Law commented was a classic Arizona Fall League wind blown popup turned touch ‘em all.  Cool.  They still count the same I believe.

Jarek Cunningham was held hitless in four at-bats for the Solar Sox who lost 12-8.

Filthy Phil Irwin pitched in relief and wasn’t so filthy according to the stat line. Irwin was touched up for three hits and two earned runs on two solo homers by Eastern League Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose  (Tony Plush look alike?) and Oakland OF stud prospect Michael Choice.

Irwin pitched 2.1 innings and recorded 20 strikes in 32 pitches.

Here is the boxscore
