As you know, Gerrit Cole has some serious heat.
But of course the right hander needs to pitch effectively and get ahead of hitters to setup his other plus pitches. In his first AFL start yesterday, Cole cruised through the lineup for seven efficient outs.
In the video below, he has just walked Luke Mattison after throwing ten pitches. So with first and second base occupied Cole is about to pitch to Rays number one pick from 1988 (ahead of Pedro Alvarez.)
What you will see is the adjustment good hitters make in the AFL. Beckham sits on Cole’s 97 mile per hour first pitch and rips a two-run double to left field.
