Pittsburgh Pirates Caffeine: No-Hit Video of New Bucs Pitcher Shairon Martis
By Tom Smith
The Pittsburgh Pirates
made a nice pickup yesterday, signing Shairon Martis who struckout 146 in 133 innings with Class AA Harrisburg. He battled some issues with his conditioning recently, but he is a classic rebound candidate as he pitched in the majors at the age of 21 for the Washington Nationals. Keep an eye on this guy.
Some sick highlights against the Altoona Curve show just how dominant Martis can be, how bad luck screwed Filthy Phil Irwin, and a bonus includes some funny broadcasting: listen closely to the announcer and the nasally lady early in the video.
Gary Robinson, who will forever be an internet star for the performance he put on when he was the State College Spikes manager, has joined the Pirates’ pro scouting team, the Bucs announced yesterday. He managed Jameson Taillon and the West Virginia Power to a 69-69 record last season. Robinson was a scout with the Phillies, Giants, and Mariners from 1991-1998.
