As expected, the Pittsburgh Pirates offered arbitration to Derrek Lee who is a free agent.
The unexpected part was the tweet from Buster that said there isn’t a gentlemans agreement to decline, in other words, there might be a possibility that Lee accepts.
Paying over $8.5 million for a 37-year old first baseman isn’t what we envision when think of the Buccos in 2012. It’s not even close. If there is a God watching above, Lee will decline and the Pirates will get a first round compensation pick in the 2012 draft.
