Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Chris Resop made 76 appearances in 2011. Along with several other Pirates, Resop is awaiting word from the Pirates if he will be offered arbitration for 2012.
It’s hard to imagine the Bucs letting the hard throwing reliever to walk away. He had dominant months over the 2011 season, he started hot and finished hot. Some of the in between wasn’t all smooth sailing, but he was overused repeatedly because Clint Hurdle’s starters often times left him little option.
What is interesting to us is which pitchers the Pirates offer arbitration to this year. The Pirates have an advanced system of statistical analysis. It will be interesting to see what that system thinks about Resop in 2012 after pitching so much in 2011, the Bucs have until December 12 to make that offer.
