Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Wild Thing Daniel Cabrera

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Daniel Cabrera according to Pirates Prospects via MLBTR. A couple quick notes about Cabrera are he is a veteran of 892.1 major league innings.  Most of them were to the sucky tune of nearly seven strikeouts per nine innings to go with his nails on the chalkboard walk rate of over five walks per nine.

He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2009 when he was with the Diamondbacks.  One would think he would compete for a spot in the minors perhaps as a bullpen arm.  How long that competition lasts is another questions.  We will take the under of oh…let’s say 60 days.

He has to be one of the tallest Dominican players in baseball standing at 6’7″ or 6’9″ if you believe his wiki page.

He lead the league in walks a few times, wild pitches and hit batsmen a few times.

He also was suspended six games for intentionally throwing at Alex Rodriguez.

Welcome aboard Daniel.
