AJ Burnett throwing a side session in the bullpen yesterday is a sigh of relief for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Burnett is scheduled to throw again on Saturday having been cleared to throw a couple innings.
Burnett said he wasn’t ready for live BP. It was his second session and he threw 52 pitches.
“It was a lot better than the previous two,” Burnett said in the video from MLB below. [Link at the bottom as well]
Nothing specific was mentioned on what a couple innings meant, so we will assume two. If Burnett continues to progress, he will be making minor-league rehab starts in early April which was referred to as “time to go,” by Burnett.
