Courtesy of the MLB Extra Innings free preview....I have seen most of the Pirate games in the first week and a half of the season. My seven points of analysis: 1 - The Barmes to Barajas game ending giveaway on Saturday night was nothing short of pitiful. It was an event that can only be seen straight out of the Plum Tball league on a Saturday morn (not slighting those kids effort). These two "new additions" appeared to be thinking of the after game DinDin, as opposed to extra innings on the field. 2 - Pedro Alvarez....This guy now looks like Triple A is too high for his current lack of talents. He is an almost sure strike out everytime he walks into the batters box. Opposing team announcers all sit and wonder out loud...."What is this man still doing in the Majors?!" 3 - Jose Tabata is the next "bust to be" via the Pirate Problem Prospect list. He makes Jose Guillen look like a Hall of Famer. 4 - This entire team is one complete strike out machine no matter who they face. When they go up against an upper echelon pitcher, it's almost automatic. They will surely have a chance in competing for the all-time K's in a year for a "supposed" MLB team. 5 - This team looks about as excited as ants on wet pavement. As usual, I see little enthusiasm, and alot of going through the motions. The only players that I get any feel of real effort and excitement from are Presley, McCutchen (and that won't last past July again), Walker, Harrison and McKenry. Such is life working for the Nutting Regime....Go through the motions, pick up your check, and wait for the off-season 6 - When its time for an umpire to make a border line call, he looks at that Pirate uniform, thinks of Bob Nutting and Regime, and goes against the Pirates. It make close calls easy for them. Who would respect anything associated with Bob Nutting?! 7 - Clint Hurdle looks like he has lost some of his fire from last year. It's early....But you get the feeling that Hurdle just hopes he can keep this ghost ship afloat. If so....Perhaps another owner will buy him off from the Nutting Regime for ten cartons of already prepared popcorn and a half dozen cans of coke. To sum it up....Anyone that would try to back the mess that Bob Nutting has (once again) spilled onto the field, carries an agenda that has nothing to do with winning baseball in this decade.
