Jeff Karstens Throwing at PNC Park
By Tom Smith
Amidst the excitement about the Pittsburgh Pirates pitching staff striking everyone out in the Cardinals organization except the squirrel today, one story might be overlooked. Pirates starter Jeff Karstens was throwing at PNC Park. Kristy Robinson tweeted a picture, but it’s a little difficult to tell it’s Karstens.
We hit the zoom button and as you can see below, it’s definently the zombie.
A healthy Jeff Karstens is a sight for sore eyes. He had solid success last season and his imminent return should help the team. Karstens left his third start of the season against the Diamondbacks with shoulder discomfort on April 17. He was eventually placed on the 15 Day disabled list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder, but after making a trip to see Dr. Andrews it was discovered surgery wasn’t needed.
Karstens held the Phillies to one run in his first start. Against the white-hot L.A. Dodgers, Karstens pitched five innings and gave up three runs.
