Duke Welker was right after all. The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled infielder Jordy Mercer and have optioned Yamaico Navarro to the Indianapolis Indians.
Mercer was the clubs third round pick in 2008 and has never played in the majors.
In 47 games with Indianapolis, the 25-year old Mercer hit. 303 with eleven doubles, three bombs, and drove in 22 runs. He spent most of his time at shortstop and played ten games at second and ten more at third.
The Pirates release mentioned Mercer hitting eighth in the International League with his .303 average. It’s also important to remember that Indy is a pitchers park and Mercer should have a few more knocks on his stat sheet.
He is also hot this month with a .358 average in 24 games this month.
