Pirates Get College Bat in Brandon Thomas: Video & Scouting Reports

In the fourth round the Pittsburgh Pirates took Brandon Thomas from Georgia Tech. He is taken as a centerfielder, but he played LF for the Wreck.  He was drafted by the Rockies three years ago.

Jonathan Mayo felt this was about where Thomas would get picked, so the Pirates aren’t backing off their selections as some thought they might.

The outfielder is 6’3″ and 205 pounds.  Thomas has average range in the corner spot, his arm could use some work.   Good baseball speed to go with his gap power.  Some scouts feel his power could grow.  Great athlete.

Say hello to Mindy!!

Solid video of Thomas here:

Good article on Thomas becoming a switch hitter at the age of 16.

2010 – Played in 32 games and made 24 starts.  Batted .262 with 18 runs, four doubles, three triples and 13 RBI.  Was 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts
