The Pittsburgh Pirates have a phenom in Andrew McCutchen. Sometimes, the city of Pittsburgh doesn’t realize the fact that a superstar plays more games in Pittsburgh than any other player.

Perhaps it’s the fact that the Pirates have been so bad, for so long.  Perhaps it’s the fact that a team like the Bucs have a perception problem.  Whatever the reason – it is starting to change a bit, as Cutch continues to slug his way through the 2012 Pittsburgh Pirates schedule.

But he wasn’t always slugging like he is now.  In fact, the SI article looks at the first time he was struggling.   The kid had flaws, and it might surprise you to know who told him all about those chinks in the armor of a player that is now a legitimate MVP candidate.
