The Hot Pittsburgh Pirates Bats Look to Continue to Mash Hard

The Pittsburgh Pirates are riding high amidst a 16-8 record in their past 24 games. The obvious highlight has been the recent resurgence of Pedro Alvarez.

In his past five games, Alvarez is hitting .529 while going 9-for-17, with five homers and two doubles. He has driven in ten runs.

Only the Detroit Tigers Miguel Cabrera has more homeruns with 14. David Freese has 13 for St. Louis.

But – let’s not take our eyes off the consistent Andrew McCutchen, who continues to lead the offense. Cutch is hitting .524 in his past five games. He has driven in more runs than any centerfielder in the National League. and is tied with Matt Kemp for the homerun lead.

Let’s trust McCutchen can take the outright lead from Kemp. A.J. Burnett is on the bump tonight, and has given up just eleven runs in 61.2 innings pitched over nine career starts at PNC Park.

With Brad Lincoln and Kevin Correia slated against much stiffer opposing pitching competition the next two days, tonight’s game is hyper important for the hot Bucs.
