The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired Drew Sutton once again on a waiver claim. Sutton was originally acquired and then moved to Tampa Bay, who had a need at the big league level for his services.
The need the Rays had has been reduced when they activated Brooks Conrad.
The 28-year old Sutton hit .271 for the Rays with a .314 OBP and .354 slugging. He had 13 hits in 48 at-bats. Sutton is a versatile player who probably wouldn’t play shortstop or catch for the Bucs, but can cover all other positions.
Sutton played in 18 games for the Rays, with four doubles and six RBI. He played third base, second base, and first base. We would think Sutton will take up the Ciriaco-type role of 25th bench (invisible) man.
