MLB Poor Man's Lottery: Pittsburgh Pirates Get Draft Pick

The hilarious ‘competitive balance lottery’ numbers were drawn tonight.  Guess who won…..our Pittsburgh Pirates. Since the 2012 draft will be viewed as such a disappointment in the coming years, we are left to look ahead to 2013 as the opportunity to make up the lost ground.

The Pirates were awarded the second pick in the compensation round which will follow the first round next year.  Right now, it would be the 33rd pick in the draft.

Also winners in the Cash Six were the K.C. Royals, Giants, Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks won picks after the first round of next year’s draft in Major League Baseball’s competitive balance lottery.

The teams that did not win a pick after the first round were entered into another lottery for picks after the second round.  Sorry about your luck. Those teams who will get to pick players after the second round are the Tigers, Brewers, A’s, Rockies, Indians, and Padres.
