Pirates Sign Reliever Mike Zagurski, Who Resembles Pukemon

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that they have signed left handed reliever Mike Zagurski.

One of the most infamous google searches surrounding Zagurski is his resemblance to Pukemon as CrossingBroad noted in this post

You might know Pukemon, a.k.a. Matthew Clemmens, as the fan who threw up on another fan at an early season game at Citizens Bank Park a while back.  We aren’t aware of a lot of details about the incident, perhaps Matthew wasn’t in full season form.   The target wasn’t a good one either–an Easton police captain, who was at the game with his two daughters.

Anyway, Zagurski is a below average pitcher who is out of options, but has been described as a great guy.  The southpaw is six foot tall and is listed at 225 pounds, a big fella.   He put up 34 strikeouts in 37.1 inninngs last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks when he allowed 37 hits, five bombs, 23 earned runs and walked 19 batters.  Yeh, not as interesting as his Pukemon likeness.

From a quick look at the scouting report the fastball sits about 90-91 with some late life.   He is known for having a plus slider that is in the low 80’s with some nice tilt to it.  The changeup is a work in progress for the 29-year old.

Zagurski will get an invitation to spring training in Bradenton so you can rest assured we will have some more information in a few months when we get there.
