The rumors keep flying this evening surrounding a potential trade of Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan to the Boston Red Sox.  From indications, it appears Jerry Sands will be coming to Pittsburgh.  Other than Sands, Jim Bowden feels that Stolmy Pimentel will be included in the deal.

Pimentel is a once promising prospect who will be in his age 23 season in 2013.  It seemed like the Red Sox were going to designate him for assignment if he failed to pitch well enough to make the majors this season.

We aren’t going off the deep edge until the deal is finalized.  Reading twitter and reaction tonight was simply hilarious.

Now on to Jerry Sands.  The guy can be  a bit polarizing.

But right now before we know the totality of the trade speculation is fun, but hardly worth the pain.  Most everyone knew Hanrahan was gone, but as outlined currently, even at 10:30 this evening, the deal makes very little sense as a straight Sands for Joel Hanrahan trade with Stolmy thrown into the deal.

The Pirates and Red Sox would certainly need to be working on some more levels to this deal.
