Pittsburgh Pirates Skipper Clint Hurdle Talks About World Baseball Classic

Pittsburgh Pirates skipper Clint Hurdle talked about the impact of the World Baseball Classic during PirateFest. Hurdle is quite frank about the topic and we found his comments interesting.

It is exciting that the Pirates have such a large contigent in the WBC this season. It’s also important to note that the Milwaukee Brewers have eleven players headed to various teams for the event.  So remember when you watch the video, it won’t just be the Pirates who feel the impact from the tournament–the Brewers will really feel it–I think two of their catchers will play.

It’s also difficult to measure just how much difference this will make with the reduced rosters and pitch counts this season.

One thing Hurdle mentions is truth. It’s nice to see the Pirates well represented in the World Baseball Classic.

Jameson Taillon will pitch for Team Canada–yeh, I am pretty pumped to see that happen.  In case you missed it, the Pittsburgh Pirates players that will be playing this year in the World Baseball Classic are as follows:

• Ivan DeJesus*, INF – Puerto Rico

Jason Grilli, P – Italy

Chris Leroux, P – Canada

• Russell Martin, C – Canada

Wandy Rodriguez, P – Dominican Republic

Ali Solis*, C – Mexico

Jameson Taillon*, P – Canada

Stefan Welch*, INF – Australia
