What a night for Robert Morris University.  The Colonials knocked off the Kentucky Wildcats and spoiled a homecoming party.  But please, please, please don’t call it once in a lifetime.  Robert Morris has been breaking the hearts of its’ student body and alumni for years now.  Big time basketball has been around Robert Morris for a long time.

The team has played its hearts out against the big boys of college basketball for quite some time.  In the Jarrett Durham era, Robert Morris College played a monsterous schedule in order to fund its’ athletic budget.  In more recent years, it’s been a breeding ground for young coaches.  Robert Morris is a successful, mid-level program and something the student body and a growing alumni base can be excited about for years to come.

In 2013, a new coach will likely be in place and thanks to thousands of eyeballs tonight, a young recruit or two might be swayed to attend the excellent academic university with thousands of connected, business-first alumni.

It’s what college basketball, at its core, is about.

You might remember Robert Morris took the number two seeded Villanova Wildcats to OT a few years ago before falling 73-70.

Here was our post on that afternoon:

Robert Morris refused to disappear, but just couldn’t get that damn Cinderella shoe to fit missing a three at the buzzer to tie it.  If only they would have won, Hometown Pizza might have finally had to live up to there free pizza offer.

We can only trust the offer was the same this year as Robert Morris finally got another win in a post-season tournament.  It’s been awhile since they knocked off Georgia Southern and then fell by two points to mighty Purdue back in

Tonight the Colonials are buying pizza for everyone in America. Simply stop over at Hometown Pizza in Moon Township Pennsylvania for your pie, it’s on Cinderella.
