Jordy Mercer to be Called Up For Pittsburgh Pirates
It appears that Jordy Mercer will be brought up from AAA to officially join the Pirates. I can’t help but take some credit for this, after only 3 days of “officially starting the #FreeJordy Campaign”. You can see the original post here. NH and the Pirates made the decision to call up the young shortstop.
Mercer tore the cover off the ball in Indy, hitting for a .333 average, 19 RBI, and 8 extra base hits. Mercer was 4th in the International League with 32 hits and lead the Indians in RBI, hits, and those qualified for average. In spring training this year, Mercer hit for a .300 average, with 3 RBI, 1 triple, and 1 home run in 30 AB. Jordy is most likely being called up to cover for Neil Walker heading to the DL, although that has yet to be confirmed.
Also occurring in Indy today is Charlie Morton’s first rehab start in AAA. Morton has been lights out in his last 2 starts in Altoona. He enters tonight’s game having posted a 1-0 record with a 0.90 era and 7 Ks in AA. Morton is likely to make his MLB season debut on May 14th against the hated Brewers.
Let us and the rest of BUCN know how you feel about the move (or on any topic really) on our Facebook Page.
