Pirates Winter Leagues: Dickerson Stands Out

The Pittsburgh Pirates have players getting action in numerous leagues this off season.  Alex Dickerson has stood out thus far with his success in the Arizona Fall League.  All of these stats are victims of the small sample size mantra, but as Neal Huntington said on the RumBunter podcast, the biggest thing is that you want to see the players succeed.

The Scorpions outfielder has has six hits, two for extra bases in 19 at-bats.

Alen Hanson who has played in five games as the Scottsdale shortstop has five hits, one for a triple, but like Dickerson has suffered from the strikeout.  Dickerson has nine punch outs in his 19 at-bats, Hanson has eleven in his 23 at-bats.

On the pitching side, Matt Benedict has pitched five innings, all in relief, and hasn’t surrendered a run.  Goose Eggs is living up to his nickname allowing just three hits in his five innings pitched and holding the talented hitters in the Arizona Fall League to a .158 average.

Zack Thornton has pitched 5.1 innings, all in relief as well, and has allowed two earned runs while holding the opposition to a .190 average.  The nice number in the stat line for Thornton is the six strikeouts.

Tyler Waldron has the lone win for the Scorpions.
