Pirates shortstop Alen Hanson takes a break during Pittsburgh Pirates spring camp

It was Alen Hanson‘s only hit of the day, but it was a big one. The Pirates super prospect hit  a walk off tenth inning single for the Scottsdale Scorpions today.  The Scorpions have now won five games in a row after defeating Mesa Solar Sox on Hanson’s big hit.

Gift Ngoepe came in as a pinch runner and scored the winning run for the Scorpions.

Alex Dickerson keeps on doing what Alex Dickerson does as he had a hit in three at-bats.  Dickerson, who was in right field again, also walked to raise his average to .323 in the Arizona Fall League.

Hanson is now hitting .256 after his day which included a walk, groundout, popout and another strike out.  The shortstop had a clean day in the field, which is always something to watch for the player that the Bucs are praying can be their shortstop of the future.

Matt Benedict allowed two hits, but didn’t surrender a run in his inning of work to lower his ERA to 1.29 on the season.  Benedict needed 13 pitches to get through the inning–ten went for strikes.

Always love seeing the Bucs make the AFL twitter highlights…
