Gregory Polanco Poised To Win Batting Crown

One of the cool things about watching winter ball is that you see announcers having a great time. If only I could tell who the hell it is. Guess I shoulda paid more attention in that French class.

It’s hard for a non-Spanish speaking American to follow all of the action.  But a couple things we are sure of after watching the game.  After giving fans a scare, Starling Marte returned to his on base machine self going 2-for-3 with two knocks. Marte was the DH and hit in the three spot in the order delivering for Escogido with a double, single and a walk.

Gregory Polanco hit in the two hole and singled once in four at-bats.  Polanco finished the regular season with a .331 average which will likely win him the Dominican batting title.

Polanco had 162 at-bats and stuck out 34 times.  The 6’4″ CF racked up 54 hits, ten doubles, one triple, five homers, drove in 28 runs and walked 28 times.  He stole seven bases and was caught stealing once.  With the regular season complete, Polanco is the player everyone is talking about now after his .932 OPS to go with a .500 SLG and .432 OBP.  Very impressive stuff for the Buccos talented outfielder.

The small sample size splits were also nice to see.  In 57 at bats against southpaws, Polanco collected 22 hits with two doubles, a triple and a homer.  The damage came against right-handers for Polanco–105 at-bats, 32 hits with four homers and eight doubles.

Another Pirates prospect Mel Rojas Jr. walked while going hitless in three at bats.  He sent this instagram after the game as he hung out with Polanco.

Partying with my homeboy is easy to understand in any language.
