Wandy Rodriguez Flexes His Muscles in Pirates 22-5 Win

The wind was blowing hard to right field in Florida but only the Pittsburgh Pirates took advantage.  The Toronto Blue Jays kept serving up high heat and the Bucs erupted for nearly 30 hits.

Wandy Rodriguez went deep from the right side of the plate.  Wandy Rodriguez went deep from the right side of the plate.   Wandy Rodriguez went deep from the right side of the plate.  Wandy Rodriguez went deep from the right side of the plate.

It’s just spring training, but whatever.  Wandy was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

Oh yeh, Wandy pitched too.  The southpaw went 4.2 innings and gave up six hits including a homer with three runs allowed on four walks and three strikeouts.

Neil Walker showed that he can hit left handers, again.  Gaby Sanchez had a bunch of hits.  Starling Marte went deep, drove in three, scored three times and collected four hits.  Jose Tabata went deep in his 4-for-4 game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates made some cuts today.  The starters in the lineup definently took advantage of the weak Toronto pitching to perhaps send everyone in Pittsburgh a little bit of a message as we wait for Opening Day.    The Buccos offense hasn’t looked this sharp in spring since, well a long time ago.  Perhaps it’s a sign of things to come, or perhaps it means nothing.
