Pirates’ Slide Continues

Gerrit Cole is a BAMF

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell 1-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals, ruining a gutsy effort from Gerrit Cole. The team is 0-2 since their closed door meeting, and have scored two runs or less twelve times this season. We were going to look up how many runners they have left on base this season, but it still wouldn’t plate any of them.

Cole is a gutsy guy, and the Pirates are fortunate to have him on their roster.   A bunt single against the Pirates’ much less effective shift led to the only run of the game in the first inning.

"The effort is there.  You leave it out on the field.  It doesn’t always go your way.  You have to just keep putting your head down and keep giving your team chances to win.  Gerrit Cole"

The Milwaukee Brewers now have 17 wins to lead the National League Central.

Meanwhile, the Buccos have dropped 12 of their last 15.

Russell Martin looks like he will be missing some time. Paging @Tony26Montana …

Francisco Liriano needs to put the Bucs on his back today.  Southpaw Tyler Lyons will start for the Cardinals, taking Joe Kelly’s spot in the Cards’ rotation.  Lyons pitched six against the Mets on Monday with six strikeouts.  It will be the third lefty the Bucs have faced this year.

Clint Hurdle said, “we keep mounting up.”

Yep.
